Crusader

I welcomed the receipt of the package from John containing samples of the latest releases from Crusader.

This is a new company, but producing a range of models of the highest quality. The Norman range is facing stiff competition from manufacturers such as gripping Beast and Black Tree, and they are standing up very well. To my mind the range is superior to Gripping Beasts Normans,, and that is saying something. The mounted Norman Knight with spear (part of pack 1) included in the samples is a beautiful figure the mail being finely detailed and the horse a suitably sturdy mount. The heavy spearman (from pack 2) is equally impressive, and a block of these chaps will be a very formidable obstacle on any wargames table. The only quibble I have though is that the spears are not provided with the models, and at £1 a foot figure I think it would be reasonable to include a piece of wire, alternatively perhaps the designer would consider producing a pack of cast spears that would enhance the models.

Also included was a selection of 28mm World War II figures, although I am no expert they seem to be from the early period of the war. All of the models are extremely well detailed, with no moulding marks or flash, even on the bases. The poses seemed very realistic and natural so unlike some ranges that in an attempt to portray the feeling of action place the models in anatomically impossible positions. I found the heavily burdened French infantryman a particularly nice model.

All in all an excellent range, that improves with each new release and deserves your attention.

And the latest Crusader news!

Hi there,

This is to let you know about the new Crusader Normans that have been added to the range.

There are 5 packs. Spearmen in quilted armour, archers, mounted knights in scale with spears, unarmoured cavalry and mounted knights in chain with swords.

Scans of all of the packs can be seen on the web site

http://www.crusaderminiatures.com/latestreleases.asp

There are another 3 packs finished that will be sent off for casting by the end of the week. They are cavalry casualties, dismounted knights in chain with swords and unarmoured cavalry command - these are not yet available for sale or trade though. There are another 4-5 packs left in the Norman range and then I'll be moving on.

As usual if anyone doesn't want to receive these updates please just let me know.

Regards
