The Late Romans
- LR1 Late Roman Command.
- Mounted: four officers, two draco-bearers and two
standard bearers. Foot: Six officers, five draco-bearers, two
Eagle-bearers and six musicians. A variety of styles of armour and
helmets.
-
- LR2 Late Roman Legionarius (3rd-5th
Centuries)
- The Legionarii are in two similar, but distinct
positions, carrying spear and round shield. Unfortunately, they are all
identically dressed and equipped in tunics and leather corselet with
leather pteruges and quilted or mail epaulettes.
-
- LR3 Late Roman Lanciarius
- Two Legio-lanciarii in crested helmet, both with
spear and round shield. They are wearing tunic and trousers, with what
looks like a leather corselet with
quilted or mail epaulettes.
-
- LR4 Late Roman Auxillia-Palatina (4th-5th
Centuries)
- Four different figures make up this pack, two with
crested helmet and two bareheaded. All wear tunic and trousers and carry
spear and round shield.
-
- LR5 Late Roman Archer (4th-5th
Centuries)
- The archers are represented shooting, having shot
and drawing arrow. All figures are bareheaded and dressed in tunic and
trousers and equipped with bow and small round shield..
-
- LR6 Late Roman Scutarius Cavalry.
- Sixteen riders, all bareheaded, in tunics with
quilted or mail epaulettes. They all carry spear and oval shield. There
are slight variations in the figures but nothing major. A variety of
horses.
-
- LR7 Late Roman Heavy Cavalry.
- Cavalrymen with spear and oval shield, mounted on
assorted horses. All the riders are in chainmail armour, some with and
some without cloaks. Some wear chainmail coifs, some plumed spangelhelms
and others crested helmets. A real variety of position and dress in this
pack, highly recommended.
-
- LR9 Late Roman Cataphracti.
- Riders in full mail and lamellar armour with
helmets and face plates on mail armoured horses. All have open hands for
the wire kontos provided, but there is little variety of position or
equipment..
-
- LR10 Late Roman Clibanarii.
- Riders in full mail and lamellar armour with
spanglehelm on horses with frontal mail armour. All have open hands for
the wire kontos provided, and the riders are equipped with cased bow and
quivers. There is some variety of arm position and head attitude.
-
- LR11 Late Roman Irregular Horse-archers.
- Bare headed riders in tunic and cloak in three
positions, one shooting to the side and two carrying bows. All carry small
round shields. The usual variety of horses.
-
- LR12 Late Roman Promoti/Dalmatae.
- Crest helmeted riders in tunic with apparent
chainmail shoulder guards. All figures carry spear and round shield with
some slight variety of position. Unfortunately, they are all identically
dressed and accoutered. The usual variety of horses.
- Goths,
Lombards & Vandals.
-
- VS1 Gothic, Lombard etc. Command.
- Four mounted Officers and four mounted draco-bearers,
all in chainmail and spangelhelms. On foot there are six assorted
Officers, six draco-bearers and six assorted musicians.
-
- VS2 Gothic Infantry.
- This pack contains no less than six different
figure poses. All are dressed in long-sleeved tunic, some with, and some
without, cloaks and all are bareheaded. Then, there are swordsman and
spearmen with a mix of round and oval shields.
-
- VS3 Gothic, Lombard Archers.
- Bareheaded archers in tunic and trousers with bow.
A good variety here, two different shooting positions, one having shot and
one reaching for arrow.
-
- VS5 Gothic Medium Cavalry.
- This pack contains bareheaded unarmoured
cavalrymen in tunic, trousers and cloak,
carrying round shields and upright spears. There are differences in
head and spear position, and one figure in my pack was throwing rather
than carrying his spear (naturally, there may be more in other packs).
-
- VS5 Gothic Heavy Cavalry.
- All the figures in this pack are disappointingly
similar. Although there are subtle differences in equipment and attitude,
all the riders are basically mail armoured cavalrymen in spangelhelms,
wearing cloaks, and carrying round shields and upright spears.
-
- VS6 Lombard Infantry.
- This time, no less than seven different poses, all
bareheaded and dressed in tunic and trousers. Two swordsmen and a spearman
carry round shields, and a swordsman and a spearman carry oval shields,
whilst another swordsman and spearmen heft hexagonal shields. A very
varied pack.
-
- VS7 Lombard Heavy Cavalry.
- All the figures in this pack are similar, open
handed, mailed cavalry in plumed spangelhelm with round shields. Wire for
the lances is provided. There are subtle differences in equipment and
attitude, but based together they would show little variation. .
-
- Franks.
-
- FR2 Frankish German Command.
- There are four mounted Officers, all in chainmail
and spangelhelms. On foot there are eight assorted Officers, eight draco-bearers
and eight assorted musicians.
-
- FR2 Frankish German Spearmen.
- This pack contains no less than six different
figure poses. All carry spear and round shield and all are bareheaded. Not
only are the poses divers, but dress and hair style varies too, some
figures adding a cloak, others, bearskin jacks to the basic tunic and
trousers.
-
- FR3 Frankish German Axemen / Swordsmen.
- There are three different figures with axe/francisca
and round shield; all in tunic and trousers. One, wearing a cloak, has a
raised axe, another, is advancing with axe and the third, in a bearskin
jack carries a francisca. Also, in the pack, are three different sword
armed figures; two bareheaded and a third in a cloak and spangelhelms. In
all, another very good value pack.
-
- FR4 Frankish German Archers.
- This pack seems to be the same as VS3 above.
-
- FR5 Frankish German Cavalry.
- Six different riders and the usual mix of horses
make up this pack. All the riders are unarmoured and wearing helmets.
There are four axemen with round shields and two, in a different pose,
with oval shields. Two spearmen, spears down, have round shields, whilst
three spearmen throwing, have oval shields. Two riders with swords raised
carry round shields and three with swords down have oval ones.
