Gladiator Games

For those of us who like to mix our History with exciting fiction Gladiator have produced a couple of ranges that are bound to appeal.

The first of these being the All for One adventures of the Three Musketeers. The 25mm models sent for review are the chaps themselves, and what chunky heroes they are. Definitely inspired by Olly Reed more than Micheal York these fellows. The detail is very good, and the engraving deep and sharply cut. The figures I am sure will paint up a real treat. If I have one gripe it is that the sword blades are too short, and the hilts are too plain for the period totally lacking the necessary knuckle guards. The price for the pack of three figures is £2.25

From an earlier period comes the Robin Hood range. The first pack contains Will Scarlet, Little John and Friar Tuck; Tuck is short and stout wielding his sword in a businesslike manner whilst wearing a plain iron skullcap. Little John is well, littler than I thought he would be, and stands feet planted firmly holding a quarterstaff at the ready. Will Scarlet is a bit of a dandy with a heavy cloak and plumed cap, however his hand on hip sword held upright pose seems a little unnatural.

The baddies though in the shape of Guy of Gisbourne, the Bishop of Peterborough and the Sheriff (everyone hiss) of Nottingham are excellent. Mounted on large sturdy destries with cloth barding, the Bishop wears his robes and broad brimmed hat of office whilst wielding a sword. The Sheriff is an excellent model, in mail and surcoat, his coif pushed back over his neck and heavy cloak as his sharp bearded face peers around. Gisbourne looks remarkably similar but rides forward with sword raised.

The Packs retail at £2.25 for the dismounted merry men, and £4.60 for the mounted models.
