Austrian Commanders of the Napoleonic wars 1792-1815

Osprey publishing Elite 101
Written by David Hollins with illustrations by Christopher Rothero
ISBN 1-84176-664-X
This book is the latest addition to the elite series and gives a good history of the Austrian command structure and some of the leading men responsible for command during the many campaigns fought against the French.
After a brief introduction the book is sub divided into categories dealing with the various elements of Austrian command.
1. The Princes and established nobles
2. The western soldiers
3. The eastern soldiers
4. The Irish and Alsatians
5. The Chiefs of staff
Each chapter deals with the history of the commanders. From the beginning to the conclusion of their military service, details of battles fought and promotions gained in respect of their actions.
The book contains eight detailed pages of colour illustrations that are of the high standard you expect to find in these books. Each colour plate is fully detailed and explained in the listing at the back of the book.
The last chapter in the book gives sources for further reading.
I would recommend this book for any miniature painter for reference and it is certainly a good read for anyone who wants to better understand the complex rank system and structure of the Austrian army.
