Review of Pendraken miniatures 28mm Elizabethans
By Andy Saunders
I received five foot and one cavalry figure.
1. First thoughts
These figures have very little flash and only a few visible mould lines, however some of these mould line are hard to remove without losing details from the figure.
They are fairly big figures and stand at 32mm from toe to top of the head, and appear slightly disproportioned in the head department this could be due to the helmet.
They have good detailing on the figures but lack any real depth of cut on the figure.
2. Painting
I started these figures with my usual grey undercoat and saw very little improvement in the figures not much to work with but there is some cut in the uniforms and a minor improvement in the revealed detail.
In fact I started three of these figures and found the real lack of cut to not suit my painting style at all and so only continued with two of the figures.
This was not because they are bad figures far from it.
There are some points to note here.
Firstly I have no painting references for the Elizabethan era so I have used the next best reference material available for the period and watched a few episodes of Black Adder, Lo and behold my versions of Mr Blackadder and Lord Percy.
Secondly I stopped painting the third figure so as to make a better job of the other two because as I said they don't really suit my painting style and have taken more time than I can spare.
3. Summing up
Overall these are clean and tidy figures they are easily painted to a good standard.
My only criticism is the lack of any depth of cut in the figures but that is just personal to my style of painting.
