Review of Newbold Enterprises - Antiquity Guard Command
By Andy Saunders (waterloo 1815)
History
Well the thought had crossed my mind that if Mr Newbold wanted an honest review of his figures he had come to the right place.
Having had a bit of banter flying back and forth between us with regard to the honesty and integrity of reviewers on the forum.Mr Newbold proffered a peace offering; I could have some of his figures to review. I gladly accepted the challenge.
FIRST THOUGHTS
I received 4 figures and thought they are big figures 32mm for three of the figures and 34mm for the other one.
I have to admit these were clean castings I could not find a mould line to speak of, or any areas of flash, which for me is great because I like to get on with painting the figures not spending ages trimming and filing away lead.
I just wish that all manufacturers sent figures out this clean (but that's dreaming).
PAINTING
My usual grey primer was liberally slapped onto the figures after a quick wash in some hot soapy water. They looked amazing and all the details really stood out.
While this was drying I had a read of the detailed background information supplied with the review figures, to aid the review, I took notes and duly disregarded everything contained in the documents except hair colour notes as this seemed to have a bit of a bearing on the characters themselves.
The painting itself was a relatively straight forward affair after I decided what colours to use. I dress my figures so the faces were first, followed by the armour and then the outer garments. Each colour received three highlights to achieve the final look.
SUMMING UP
These are very well sculpted miniatures full of details and very good proportions for all parts of the model.
The beard on Donal was a fantastic painting effort that's some beard the guy has got there!
The only criticism I would make is there are perhaps a few too many A's on each character but that's just nit picking.
Overall fantastic figures that have been a joy to paint, I must try arguing with Ian some more see what other goodies he'll throw my way.
Keep up the good work the castings are fantastic quality.
