Lancashire Games

15mm Marlburians (Part 2)

Review by Steve Crofts

Foreword

First of all I must apologise to you all and to Alan at Lancashire Games for the length of time between this and the original review where I said I was going to be doing the second part covering the Austrian Cavalry, well this is the second part but due to the amount of workload that I have had and do still have, I will have to cover the other armies as well in this second part.

To be honest I didn’t realise just how much work I was taking on when I volunteered to do reviews for the forum, and now it is a constant fight to keep up to date with new releases etc… This is one of the main reasons I only paint a small selection of the miniatures sent for review now instead of all of them as I did when I first started.

So Alan and everyone else, please accept my humble apologies for you waiting so long

First Thoughts

All of the infantry is to a very good quality, (see part one for more details), and this doesn’t stop with those, the Cavalry are very nice too, plenty of detail and animation.

All the figures are very well presented and detail is of a very good standard.

Cast as one piece, the cavalry can seem a little daunting to not only clean up and undercoat but also to paint, worry not, they are pretty easy to do in both areas.

Detail

The detail on the miniatures is good, all the equipment etc is well reproduced to a good degree.

The figures clothing features folds and creases and the cut of these is to a very good standard.

Facial detail is another good point on these minis and there is plenty to work with even at this scale.

All the figures including the horses are very well posed, and each has plenty of movement but it is not done in an unrealistic way that goes over the top.

Flash

There was very little in the way of flash, only the odd bit between the horses legs, and this like I said above did not cause any major problems, a couple of the figures did have mould lines on the whole they caused few problems in cleaning up, the only time I did have problems was actually inside one of the minis tricorns but a bit of work with a scalpel and some modelling putty soon put it to rights.

Painting

I’ll not go into the fine detailed report as most of this was covered in the original review, but I must say that I enjoyed painting the minis I chose for this second part and I surmise that the other nations will also be as good to paint as the quality of the miniatures does not change from nation to nation.

Final thoughts

All of the following nations are available and here is a list, plus the photos are of the various nations…..

Austria, Britain , France and the Dutch.

I am not sure if the range will be expanding further and with which nations, hopefully more information will become available as and when, either that or have a chat with the guys at Lancashire games and I’m sure they will be more than happy to tell you what is next.

Before I started this second part of the review I had a look at Lancashire games’ website, and I came across the prices of the minis, this shocked me as I was surprised how good the price was for these miniatures, to buy in a pack of 100 infantry it is just £14.00 and the more packs you buy the cheaper they are so the price varies dependent on how many you order from 14p each to about 12p each, now that to me is Value for money!

Next show your at that Lancashire attends take a look, you’ll love the prices and like I said excellent value for money!
