Technikon Witwatersrand Wargames Club

On the evening of Saturday, 8 November 2003, the Technikon Witwatersrand Wargames Club held its first end of year awards ceremony.

Credit must of course go to the new dynamic leadership as even though the club started in 1995, such an event has never been held before by the club.

The Vice Chairman, Rhonnie Manana, explained the committee's vision for the club for 2004. Rhonnie stressed that the club is to take a greater role in the affairs of the South African Wargames Union, not merely in terms of participation in championships, but also in the administration as well.

Rhonnie stressed that the TWR would challenge the hegemony of the older established clubs and be the new driving force in wargames in South Africa.

The audience noted that TWR had won the following provincial and national titles in 2003.

S A Nationals - Pike and Shot - Premier event
Free State Championships - Draughts - Premier
Free State Championships - Draughts - Under 24
Free State Championships - Morabaraba - Under 24

The club had also produced one player for the S A national Protea team in 2003.

The following players received awards:

Best player of the year:      Rhonnie Manana
Best Morabaraba player:   Donald Seome
Best Draughts player:        Mothusi Moabi
Sportsmanship award:        Kagiso Phage
Most improved player:      Peter Tau
