Saturday 24 January (Holly Holy Day): Tony Spicer's annual Nantwich (1644) Walk: gather in St Mary's church, Acton, at 10 am for coffee, for a talk and a walk on the battlefield. Please tell Tony on 01684.572925 if you will be there Alternatively meet Paddy Griffith at the Hack Green Top Secret Nuclear Bunker for a tour when it opens at 11 am. You can't miss it - there are prominent road signs to it all over Nantwich (but don't tell anyone its location. Hush!) Then Lunch in the town centre, where the Sealed Knot will assemble at 2 pm and then march off to Re-enact the Battle. Saturday 3 April: Professor Steve Harding and Brenda Rampling present an interpretation of the Battle of Brunanburgh (937): Meet at Thurstaston Visitor Centre, off the A540, just North of Heswall, Wirrall, for coffee at 10 am... but if you believe otherwise you might prefer to go to Axminster, Rotherham, Burnswork &c &c &c...


Saturday 1 May: Battle of the Atlantic  Anniversary - Meet Paddy Griffith at l0.15am in front of the Liver Building (ie the one with gigantic
mythical birds on the roof) at Pier Head .Liverpool, to inspect the Battle of the Atlantic war rooms, and much more besides. Fort Perch Rock, New Brighton, will be open from noon to 5.30 pm, subject " to weather conditions.


Saturday 21st July: Bodelwyddan and Rhuddlan Tour: Meet Paddy .Griffith at 1015 at the imposing white marble church at Bodelwyddan (Denbighshire, on the A55) to contemplate Kinmel Camp and Bodelwyddan Castle during the Great War.; Rhuddlan Castle through the ages (including the death of Offa, and Edward I's campaign of 1282); several hill forts, plus the alleged battle of Abergele (795)

A Sunday in September (precise date TBA): Cruise down the Manchester Ship Canal, from Salford quays (Ship departs 1000 hours prompt, so gather at 0945) to Liverpool Pier Head, with bus provided for return journey (total time 6-7 hours). This is not a tour of military sites (apart from Runcorn, where bargees on the canal were the unwitting guinea pigs in the first British test of poison gas); but it will tell us much about the essential infrastructure of the industrial North West. The cost is £28 per head, excluding the cash bar. and snacks available on the ship; but punters may prefer r to bring their own Fortnum's hampers! Bring the family and relax!! Please contact

Saturday 6 November: Study Day on 'How the North West Shaped World Military History' at the Queen's Lancashire Regiment Museum, Fulwood Barracks,
Preston, from lOam. We hope for plenty of diverse papers on the campaigns launched from here into foreign parts (whether that meant the Yangste or just Yorkshire): the technology invented and built here (from the Cheshire longbow to Whitworth rifled guns or AVRO Lancasters), or the great military men who were born here. Please submit your own ideas for even a short talk on some such subject. £ 15 for the day including buffet lunch. Make out cheques to 'The Battlefields Trust' and send them to Paddy Griffith, together with details of your Car. make, colour & registration number for free parking in the barracks.
