South African National Championships

The South African Wargames Union held its annual South African National Championships on the weekend of 3 and 4 May 2003 at the Technikon Witwatersrand, Bunting Road in Johannesburg.

The championships were well attended with more clubs attending the championsips than ever before. Even with the upsurge in interest and participation, all of the old stalwarts managed to hold on to their positions.

Edi Birsan of the USA, and previous world champion, also participated in the championships. Special mention must be made of Fanele Ndzoko who challenged Edi Birsan and narrowly came second to him.

The final top three positions were:

On Saturday 10 May 2003 the South African Wargames Union assisted the Pretoria Technikon in a Morabaraba promotion on campus. The event was sponsored by Edu-loan.

Due to the mathematical nature of the game of Morabaraba, the Pretoria Technikon was utilising the game to determine the mathematical ability of prospective students.

The South African Wargames Union used current national team players Rhonnie Mannana and Thabo Mokoena to test applicant students in the most exciting promotion done to date.

Over 590 prospective students participated in the event which proved itself to be both fun and highly exciting.
