Resin cast 20mm BUILDINGS AND ACCESSORIES

First Thoughts

First out of the bag was the round house.

Hmm not bad at all, the odd small air bubble in the cast is apparent but nothing serious and not enough to complain about, the detail is pretty good and I feel the item could be of use in smaller scales as well, I’d say at a guess 10mm being the smallest.

The list price of the round house is 80p and it is worth the money, in my opinion.

Next up was the blitzed fountain.

This myself I’d have called an ornamental pond or well, as there is no apparent fountain in the centre.

Air bubbles again were present, but again, nothing to complain about really as they do look a little like bullet/ shrapnel holes.

The brisk work around the “fountain” is nice although from the side you can see that the mortar line grooves are missing, this can be remedied with a little work using modelling tools and would enhance the model.

The price of £1.00 is again worth it as I feel that the model can be used in various scales so it would be a very worthwhile item to have at your disposal.

The last Item is the blatted statue.

The first thing I noticed was a pile of rubble near to the statues base, which was made up of bricks, and I had to ask myself the question, “where did that come from?”, as the rest of the model seems to represent stone, so it did look a little out of place.

The next thing I noticed was the lack of detail when viewing the item from the side, no mortar/ stone lines are evident. The statue, well all I could discern from that was a toga/ dress? And what looks like an arm that has been blown off the main statue. I also couldn’t make out any facial or head detail for that matter, which I felt was a pity.

Continuing with the statue itself, although the composition is supposed to be of a statue that has been blown down, the way it lays upon it’s plinth seems to make it look like it has been their all the time and carved out of the plinth rather than being the separate entity that it is supposed to be. A great shame really as this could have been a really excellent centre piece to a town square, or at a larger scale a garden statue near a bombed out mansion or whatever.

If the statue had been under cut to make it look more separate from the plinth/ steps and the detail enhanced some more this item would I feel be of excellent value and it would have improved the piece considerably.

Again air bubbles were present but these because of the composition could be very easily passed off as bullet / shrapnel holes.

Painting

All three of the models were cleaned up slightly to get rid of light resin flash, (if you want to call it that), after which they were all undercoated in my usual undercoat colour and then painting commenced.

The usual succession of paint was used going from dark to light in all colours.

I was particularly impressed by the hut, daft as it may sound I thought that this would have been the most boring thing to paint, but I was wrong!, in fact I enjoyed painting them all up and I feel that anyone taking their time and not rushing the models should be able to do a really good job of them.

Final Thoughts

All three of the models are decent value for money, although I do hope that the guys at The Square, do take note on the minor criticisms and use them to improve the models further. If these couple of things are improved then I can see you getting good reviews all along the board!

Good work.
