Inuit Range

First Thoughts
What’s this? A sled a dog team, Hmmm novel, a couple of canoes and loads of Kenny’s, (whoops sorry!), Eskimos!,(err sorry again!) Inuit’s!
All the figures stand at 18mm from bottom of their base to the top of their heads.
Pack Inuit 1:
There are 8 figures in the pack, of these there are four main figures, the others are variants of the aforesaid four minis with the use of different weapons.
Weaponry in the pack consist of spears and axes.
Pack Inuit 2:
Again, there are 8 figures in the pack and there are 3 variant figures, all are armed with bows.
Pack Inuit 3:
This is a nice little set, the sled is well detailed and has a Musher and an archer, the sled is pulled by a three dog team, although I do feel that it would have looked better with an eight dog team, I know this would put the price of the set up, but, to me it would look more realistic as dog teams are quite large and I think the three are just not enough. The price of the set is £1.50, so an increase for the extra dogs would still make it very affordable and in the same vein make it look more right.
There does seem to be a lead dog in the set, it is slightly bigger and a little broader than the other two, which is what I’d expect from a lead dog. A nice little item, and I do look forward to painting it.
Pack Inuit 4:
This pack contains two canoes and each has a half figure to place in each, both the half figures are in the same paddling pose, again another nice novel composition to paint.
Overall First Thoughts
All the miniatures in the packs are nicely detailed. The sculpting and cut on the figures looks to be of a good standard and all are in good lifelike poses.
The cut is just how I like to see, not overly done but enough to work with when painting and folds and creases that give the minis a bit of movement which again adds life to the compositions.
Facial detail although they are buried in the hoods, (it is cold where they live you know!), is also done to a good standard and again there is plenty to work with.
Flash
Some of the items have a little flash on them, but this is mainly in the areas you’d expect i.e. the bottom of the base.
Mould lines again are only present on a few of the figures, and these ate nothing to worry about as they clean up well and don’t cause a lot of fuss.
The only items I did need to tidy up were the canoes but this was at just one end where there was a piece of metal that needed removing, but with a little care to keep the shape this again was easily removed, the care you need to do on this is very important as if you don’t take care you could spoil the look of the canoe.
Painting
After the undercoat I did my usual pre painting inspection, I always find that after the undercoat that is when all the detail becomes apparent, and with these figures I was not disappointed.
It was a very enjoyable experience to work on these, not only because the compositions were a bit of a novelty but also because the figures work with you when you paint, which to me is all important if you wish to not only enjoy the painting but also to make a good job.
Needless to say I was very happy with the overall finished results, especially on smaller scale minis.
Final Thoughts
Overall I do feel these are indeed a nice set of figures, and are worth a good look at a show, the only gripe about them I have and that is the Dog team, as I said earlier it would suit to have a larger team in the pack or even a pack with extra dogs in so you have the choice of larger teams if you wish, and would in my opinion give a more realistic look to the sled in general.
Having said that the sled concept is a good idea and is a novel item for anyone building an army of Inuit’s and gives you that “different” unit.
Just as a thought to add, I had a couple of ideas regarding the Sled and canoes, Canoe and sled racing games, bit of fun for an evenings gaming!
My final comment is directly at M.Y. Miniatures, Well done a lovely set of minis I really like them!
