Review of 15mm Boxer Rebellion figures

I received a fair amount of the figures to review and choose eight to paint, the range at the moment covers the following, Japanese, American, Italian, French, British, German, Russian and of course the Chinese.

1. First thoughts

It is heaven when you get a batch of figures for review and you find that the miniatures are fantastic clean and full of detail.

There was so little flash and minimal mould lines that after a very quick spruce up they were being washed ready to paint. The only exception to this was the bald guys who had a mould line running down the face and needed a steady hand with the scalpel not to remove the facial features.

The figures stand 20mm from toe to top of head.

2. Painting

I will state here and now that the clothing colours I have picked will probably not be historically accurate as I know very little about the period and have limited reference material on the subject. However I am reviewing the figure for painting and presentation and not for a history lesson so please forgive me if the colours are wrong.

First off was my preferred dark grey undercoat and wow these figures have very good detailing well-cut clothing, hands, faces and weapons.

On went the flesh and the detail cut into the faces was very good each having clear facial expression and the cut made highlighting and toning easy

Next went the clothing same as the face followed lastly by the weapons.

These figures are so well made they could be painted by a novice without any problem and would look very good.

If I used 15mm figures for gaming these would be a good choice they are quality figures at an excellent price.
