Reiver Castings
King James and the Glorious Revolution
![]() |
New from the casting machines of Old Glory comes this new 28mm range, researched by Andy Copestake and sculpted by Andy Ellis. The period of the Glorious Revolution is perhaps one of the most neglected in the wargames arena, certainly in the UK. Although many are aware of the Monmouth Rebellion and the Battle of the Boyne, fewer know much of the first Jacobite Rebellion or the wars with France, so these figures will be welcomed by Pike and Shot fans.
The models retail at £8 for a bag of 10 models, and so are reasonably priced. As with the Old Glory range each pack contains a variety of poses, this has its advantages in that you are able to produce far more realistic and interesting looking units, but you also end up with models that are not always as pleasing to the eye as you might like.
Two packs were received for review, the first (JGR19) Musketeers, apostles, advancing with plug bayonets. The "apostles" refers wooden containers which hand from a leather bandolier, or cross belt and that carry the powder charges for the musket. These are chunky models, with deeply carved detail and a minimum of flash, mainly around the base and the sword scabbard. The biggest problem is the proportions of the bodies in relation to the head on a couple of the figures seem totally wrong. Now it may be that the hunched up raised arm position of the model is the main reason, but they do look a little strange. Having said that I have seen a couple of painted units from this range and the difference in headsize is not noticeable en masse

The second pack (JGR5) Grenadiers in fur cap, marching. Unfortunately the pin head feature is far more pronounced with these figures than the musketeers. My mate suggested that the designer had used my body and my sons head as their inspiration (cheeky b*****d), although I see what he means a couple of the figures seem to have hay bales stuffed inside their coats. Which is a pity as the other details on the model are fine and I am sure will look excellent when painted.
