English DBR 100 Open competition
Some of you may be aware that the new version 2.0 of DBR is due to be published at the end of the month. Inspired by the success of the English and Welsh DBA Open competitions, we feel that there should be a similar, one-day competition for the 100 point condensed scale version of DBR, catering for those who would like to try competitive games, but don’t want the commitment (or stress) of a two or three day competition.
So we would like to inaugurate an English DBR 100 Open competition. However, at this point, we need to find out if there is sufficient interest for this event to take place. We would be grateful if you could contact us if you are interested, so we could gauge potential numbers. Therefore can I ask those of you with a genuine interest to contact paws_sec@yahoo.co.uk, stating if you would be interested in competing in the 15mm or 25 mm competition?
Provisionally, this will be scheduled to take place in early July (Sunday the 4th is currently pencilled in), in Portsmouth, England.
The Pike and Shot Society have agreed to support and sponsor the event, but we will be looking for additional sponsors if interest is sufficient. This should keep entry fees low, in the region of £3-£4 we hope (and certainly not more than a Fiver)
Based on the size of the English DBA event, we feel that a minimum entry of 16 in the 15mm competition would be needed to make things viable. An additional 25mm competition could be run parallel to the 15mm one with at least 8 competitors.
Given these minimum numbers, the same “World Cup” format as the English DBA Open can be used, guaranteeing everyone 3 games in the morning, with the successful ones going on to a Knock Out stage in the afternoon. Players will use their own armies for the morning games, but in the Knock Out stage will select from themed armies supplied by us. (For those unsuccessful in the morning, we will arrange friendly multi-player games.) Depending upon sponsorship, we would hope to offer prizes for the winners, and (like the DBA Open) for Best Sportsman, Best Young Player, and Best Army and Terrain.
However, I must stress that all of this is dependent on there being enough interest to go ahead with our plans, so please do contact paws_sec@yahoo.co.uk if you are interested.
If there is a good initial interest, I shall set up a dedicated Yahoo Group for announcements and queries. I will leave it so that non-members can read the messages, but if you are interested, and especially if you end up entering, I would ask you to join. (I will make it so that all posts must be moderated to prevent any Spam.)
Thank you for your co-operation, and I hope we will see some of you in July.
