CDV:- Code Name Panzers
Review by:- Steve Crofts

I’ve seen PC Wargames and I’ve seen PC Wargames, having played Burning Horizons, I did have high expectations for this the next offering from CDV, and to say the least I wasn’t let down.

Having received a review preview copy of the game there was no fancy packaging filled with the usual pictures and write up about the game, this was a here’s the game what do you think type package.

The screenshots etc … as you load up the game are very good, and it is nice to look at them as the game does take a small amount of time to load up for the first install, took about 8 mins on my machine, so grab a coffee smoke a fag and watch the pretty pictures!

After the loading, it was lob in the password and off we go!

If you have played Burning Horizons you will love this, the graphics are, (to my eyes), improved, the detail is excellent and is what I expect from a CDV game.

As a word of advice go through the tutorials and learn the basics of the game play before attempting to play the missions, chances are you’ll end up wiped out in no time at all.

There is quite a lot to learn and I personally would go through the tutorials a couple of times to make sure you know what does what and where it is.

Tactics are a must for this game, I’ve tried it with and without using the grey matter, needless to say without ended in a real slaughterfest of my men and tanks etc…

So use your head and use supporting weapons ect to cover your advance, oh and watch out for enemy artillery support it can be devastating, but then so can yours!

Air power, well you have Bombers, dive bombers and fighters as well as transport planes for paras and also the very useful; spotter planes, just be aware of enemy Flak guns, or it’s bye bye aircraft, same goes for fighters.

The game is addictive and I suggest having a go at it when you have plenty of time to spare, this will give you a chance to analyse what you did wrong and try a different approach.

For the WWII gamer I would certainly recommend it, and if you like a good strategic game or just enjoy playing wargames you will certainly enjoy this one.

To sum it all up a whole lot of fun and an extremely challenging game that should keep you happy for many hours.
