Gripping Beast
Republican Romans - Velites
First Thoughts
These are something every Roman army could do with, the four I was given for review were in all fairness and honesty a wonder to behold.
Each of the of the individual figures at the preliminary stage looked good, zero flash or just about, no mould lines, a painters dream come true!
All are well sculptured and detailed right down to the , (dare I say it without my German Shepherd getting upset and attacking me!), wolf pelt head gear.
All the figures are full of movement and each differ in pose and stance, (I can see me bulking these out somewhat for my own Roman Army!),(shh don't tell the wife!).
The figures come with long spears and also swords, as well as shields. Both hands of each figure are open, so you can create multiple permutations of the figures using the weapons provided, this will change the look of each individual figure just by putting different weapons in each hand.
Just off the top of my head I worked out that there are at least three different variations in this area, and works out to twelve different looks to the four figures in the review!
Painting
A very enjoyable experience, the figures themselves do everything for the painter and make life very easy, I felt like I was just adding the colours and the figures did the rest.
I must say that only a few manufacturers figures do this for me, but I am in no doubts about adding Gripping Beast to a very short list.
Well done gripping beast, lovely miniatures!, keep it up.
