Gripping Beast
Republican Romans - Italian Allies
First Thoughts
Hmmm...... What lovely figures!, Very crisp and finely cast, very little in the way of mould lines and flash, apart from the bit of flash on the bottom of the base of the figures, wonderful less preparation before the joys of painting!!!
The sculpting is in my opinion to an excellent standard, each of the figures I received for the review, ( 5 of them), are in different poses or a variation of a pose, each figure is full of movement and this helps with the added details to bring to life each individual figure.
The Overall detail on the figures is of the highest standards, right the way down to the feathering on plumes to the individual straps on the sandals.
The figures faces and hands are well cut and these details are proportionate to the size of the models.
Belts, buckles etc... are all well detailed and just add "realism" to the models.
Under coating
After the figures had their coat of primer I could see the pains that the sculptor had gone to, to bring these little fellows to life, clever little touches here and their that make the difference.
The only thing I found to Gripe about was that on a couple of the figures the bases were a little too narrow for my liking, I myself prefer a little more base width as it gives a better area for gluing to a base when finished, but don't let this stop you from purchasing these Gems as the figures rich details more than make up for this, ( and after all what else could I gripe about!).
Painting
Pfwaarrrh!!! Wikkid!, as the kids would say.
These figures are very nice to paint and the finish is excellent.
Each coat of shade added to these miniatures just looks better and better and once based they look superb.
I did find the figures easy to paint and like a good book it was hard to put them down, (much to the moaning of the wife!, she likes to go shopping, I prefer painting!), until they were finished.
Overall these are a beautiful set of figures that would grace anyone's table.
Well done Gripping Beast keep up the excellent work!
