Review of Fantassin miniatures
(Figures are of Spanish origin)

I received one pack of twelve figures from this manufacturer to review containing
9 French infantry in two poses one officer, one eagle bearer and a drummer.
1. First thoughts

These figures have very little flash and no visible mould lines, however I’m not sure about the proportions of the miniature. Some parts seem over stated and others non-existent.
A good example of this is an enormous great coat on top of the haversack that seems tiny. The miniatures are approx 20mm from toe to top of head. There appears to be a lack of any real detail on these figures i.e. no fingers and little detailing of the uniforms.
The details that are on the figures, however are well presented if out of proportion, the figures almost have a caricature quality.
2. Painting
I started these figures with a grey undercoat and saw a little improvement in the figures not much to work with but there is some cut in the uniforms and a minor improvement in the revealed detail.
The uniforms themselves are not very clear in the detailing and some of the uniform distinctions have to just be painted on in the correct places.
Some of the details are there but are so small and poorly defined that painting these areas is difficult.
I have painted these figures in two styles; on the tabletop and high detail too show what can be achieved with these figures with extra work.
Firstly the detailed painting I chose to paint the officer and eagle bearer for this as neither seemed to have highly detailed uniforms. I was pleasantly surprised at just what I could paint onto these figures. And was very happy with the result.
Secondly I chose to paint the two differing infantry figures in an on the table with the basic uniform and no extra detailing. This went well and the result was also pleasing. Again the proportions almost make the figures cartoonish in appearance but I think this has an appeal all of its own.
3. Summing up

Overall these are clean and tidy figures they are easily painted to a suitable standard and have most of the equipment you would see on larger scale figures.
My only real criticism would be the figures are a bit skinny and this is probably what makes them look slightly out of proportion.
However they are well-sculpted miniatures and I quite like the appearance of them.
Adding a few more uniform details and perhaps bulking out the body a little could
improve them.
