Bolt Action Miniatures

World War II Infantry
Review By Steve Crofts

First Thoughts

These are my thoughts upon opening the three packs I received for review

Pack GB 01 2 Officers, 1 NCO and 1 Medic

Well on first viewing these look good, poses are in my opinion very realistic, All are well proportioned, and each figure has a life and movement sculptured into them, already on this fist inspection I can feel the urge to put down my pen and start painting, but alas if I do then you will not get to read this review!

All details are well defined, kit is well represented, clothing, helmets, faces, hands, weapons the works right down to the eyelets on their boots!

The uniforms are really nice as the folds and creases have a good depth to work with and have that slight baggy look about them.

All the figures wear the typical Tommie’s “Battle Bowler” helmet with net cover on.

Pack DE 004 All armed with Schmiessers 2 wear smocks and 2 wear the standard army jacket.

As with the first pack the poses etc are pretty realistic.

Each of the figures wears varying degrees of kit, giving each an individual look and a typical “In Combat Zone” look to them.

Pack DE 005 All armed with rifles and wearing helmets, one of which has the cloth helmet cover.

The consistency of the castings has been evident throughout the two previous packs that I have already looked at, and this third one is no different, again each figure has its own qualities, which gives each one that individual appearance and appeal, almost a personality.

Poses again are not overly done and are in all cases very realistic.

First Thoughts Overall

Looking at all three packs it is quite obvious we are dealing with a manufacturer that is well up there with the big boys, As Bolt Action Miniatures are from the same stable as Gripping beast, this comes as no surprise.

Not one of the figures has the slightest drop in detail and I feel that if you yourself collect 25/8mm WWII , that, you should definitely check these figures out in the flesh, I feel sure that you appreciate then what I am saying and that you will also be glad that you did! Although I feel your bank balance may have different ideas!

Flash

The figures had just odd bits here and there but nothing to give much trouble or to gripe about and this was very easily removed.

Mould lines…. Well I only spotted the odd one with a suggestion of mould lines and those were also easily removed.

Painting

Before I start with the painting report let me explain something, Due to the large amount of review Items that I have , (and I think John will agree with me on these next couple of statements), that I am unfortunately in the position where I can only paint a few select figures from the review items from each trader, I know in the past lot of articles that I have painted all of the miniatures, but due to sheer numbers it will be, at least for the foreseeable future nigh on impossible to keep up with the reviews at the current level without cutting back somewhere.

Manufacturers please accept my apologies, but I am only human and I have only two hands! I will however still review ALL the Items that are sent by each manufacturer and will paint one model from each pack.

Back to the review…..

Well my eagerness to start painting was not wasted, the figures are a sheer delight to paint and if you have ever painted a Gripping beast figure, These are just the same, a real treat!

I did not have any problems with any of the figures concerned except that the British NCO was a little awkward when painting between his legs, this is no real hang up and can be awkward on anybody’s figures when posed kneeling or squatting.

Faces are so easy to paint and expressions and eyes are a doddle!

The smaller details such as badges and buttons are also pretty easy to paint.

Final Thoughts

Well what can I say that hasn’t already been said? Not a lot really so well done Bolt Action, Hope to see more figures being added to your existing range and keep up the good work!
