The Aim of The Game

The aim of players in Excalibur is to become either the Bretwalder (the Emperor of Britain) or the Righ-Mor (the High King of Scotland). The first player to achieve either of these goals, automatically wins the game.

To become the Bretwalder , a player must control 36 counties in England or Wales either directly, or through other characters, either player, or non-player, who have become his clients (Liegemen).

To become the Righ-Mor, a player must control 24 counties in Scotland, either directly, or through other characters, either player, or non-player, who have become his clients (Liegemen).

It may seem easier to become the Righ-mor than the Bretwalder, but Scots players tend to be weaker than English ones, and so would find it very difficult to become the Bretwalder. Whereas, a strong English contender to become Bretwalder may well find that he has to intervene in Scotland, to prevent a Scots player winning the game by becoming Righ-mor.
